Comfy Cozy

I’ve found the perfect office! Soft, comfortable and soothing – I never want to leave.

It would, however, be a bit awkward trying to get my work done with customers constantly interrupting me.

Guess I’ll just have to settle for the wonderful opportunity I had to interview Angela Lossia, founder of Angela Fine Furnishings in Naples, Fl , lounging around on some of her beautiful luxury bedding.

Angela’s showroom has absolutely beautiful, one-of-a-kind items that will complete your home. She works with clients as well as interior designers to create amazing spaces that people rave about.

They say we’re a nation of sleep deprived individuals. I say lay down on this bedding and problem solved!

A “Joy”-ful find…

Interior designers are always looking to present something new to their clients. Something that will make their eyes pop and their heart’s beat a little faster.

When I met artist, Robin Joy, and saw her artwork, that’s exactly how I felt. Not only did her unique, whimsical and magical work speak to me personally; but all kinds of ideas went flying through my brain. This was art that lends itself to interior design in oh, so many ways!

Through her drawings, Robin Joy has created another world. She’s taken her patterns and characters and artwork and applied them to cups and saucers, dishes and teapots. Her designs have appeared on couture clothing, wall coverings and been the main characters in a couple of books.

Can you imagine being able to present your client with fabric or wall coverings that have been created specifically for them? What a rock star you’d be in their eyes! (And won’t all their neighbors be turning several different shades of green?)

And speaking of color, Robin can adapt her work with color in ways too numerous to mention here.

So you say your searching for something new? Something unique? Something that will blow your client’s mind?

Search no more! Take a look at the cover image – take a really close look. See? That’s the world of Robin Joy…….limitless in imagination.

Now it’s up to you to bring it into your home design – onto the walls, the table and into your client’s world….

In the Hot Seat

Ever hear that expression: Walk a mile in my shoes? Well, in today’s video blog, I get to “walk” in one of my designer’s shoes.

Usually, I interview a Design Match team member, but Diane turned the tables and interviewed me this time.

Now I know what it feels like to be in the hot seat! A little nerve-wracking to say the least. But I also learned how quickly design professionals are asked to create, to answer difficult design questions and to solve problems for their clients.

Design professionals are often put in the hot seat by clients. Each design client is different, with different needs and expectations.

A great designer can take your likes and dislikes, your design dreams and wishes and create a home that is beautifully designed and is YOU.

A great interior designer, architect, landscape architect or builder is able to design a home that is unique to YOUR taste and YOUR lifestyle.

Being in the hot seat as a design professional is part of the job. It’s what our Design Match designers do best – what they excel at. And it’s what I’m going to leave to them.

I’ll just step into those stilettos and wrap that scarf around my neck and keep on matching YOU to the right design professional that will make YOUR design dreams come true.

Would love to hear from you – did you like this video? If so please share it.

Tell us when you’ve had the tables turned on you? Did you learn anything? Who would you like to turn the tables on in your world?

Come Over to the Darkside

Are you afraid of the dark?

We’re going over to the dark side together. You’re gonna love it.

Now let’s not get all Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight Saga – I’m talking paint color here, my friends.

While we’re there, we’ll visit with some friends of mine that have really transformed those interior dark shadows into shades of chic, dramatic and poetic. Sherwin Williams, his good buddy Benjamin Moore and that dynamic duo Farrow & Ball.

Now Sherwin loves navy – the darker the better. Paint and accent wall in Sherwin Williams’ Naval, add some bright white trim and you’re ready to set sail into the sunset!

Ben, on the other hand is totally taken by all shades of green. Think , game room, old world elegance – cigars, cognac and male bonding. “I say, old boy, do tell that hunting story again!”

That crazy creative couple Farrow & Ball completely own dark grey and all shades of black. Rich, elegant and inviting. Fill this tub with bubbles and sip on chilled champagne while listening to your favorite music.

50 Shades of Grey? Bah! There are hundreds of shades of grey and black, from pearl to smoke and from off-black to pitch.

Design Match designer Sharon G. states: “Using dark colors in a room or interior is a design tool that helps create contrast, which in turn, creates interest.

Here’s one of my favorite uses of a dark color in interior design. This young couple looked way beyond the traditional pastel colors for a nursery and painted their baby’s room a dark grey. With the accents of white and gold, this room is a soothing and comforting space. Imagine going to sleep in this environment – like being back in the womb. This baby has been blessed with incredibly creative parents!

If you decide that this style is for you, you’re gonna need The Professionals (fyi: 1966 film starring Burt Lancaster – thought this one may need explaining) to make sure it’s done right.

It’s important to rely on your interior designer to help you select the right shade of a dark paint color that works with your environment. There are several factors involved in making sure that the color will create the feeling you desire – sunlight and artificial light, size of space, how the room is utilized, etc.

If you’re ready to come over to the rich, deep and dramatic side of color, contact us and we’ll help you find the right designer who will be your beacon in the dark.

Right After this Glass of Wine…

I’ll stop procrastinating…….tomorrow, next week, next year….

When I get into the groove, there’s no stopping me. I eat, drink and sleep it whatever it is that has absorbed me. I’m soaring through creative clouds, flapping my wings to beat the band.

Thoughts, ideas and solutions come pouring out of me – I’m amazing.

Then there are those other times. I can put off a task or making a decision with the same intensity that it takes to fly high.

Truth be told, I have been avoiding choosing a topic for this week’s blog. I was able to sidestep sitting down and writing something almost to perfection. I made it so close to the deadline that it was practically behind me. No choice was happening except the choice to keep putting it off.

However, when it came right down to it, I decided I had to – wanted to – write this blog.

Because the procrastination I was stuck in actually inspired the topic!

Procrastination is soooo much easier than actually making a difficult decision. We promise our selves that we’ll get to it as soon as we finish this chapter, take the dog for a walk or finish this glass of wine.

Sometime the decision seems overwhelming, sometimes the options aren’t all that appealing or sometimes we just don’t know where to start.

Like choosing the right interior designer that’s going to really get you. Someone that’s aligned with your style, your vision and your budget.

So you’ve been putting it off. Perhaps you’ll stumble across the design professional you’re looking for in the shoe department at Saks. Maybe he or she will magically appear at your door. Yeah, right.

We’re here to make that choice easy! Design Match helps you choose the Perfect Design Partner for YOUR project.

Design Match has relationships with some of the area’s most talented design professionals. Through our complimentary in-person interview process, we’ll assist you in choosing the designer that will help your design dreams come true.

If you’re stuck on the ground practicing the art of procrastination – contact us – we’ll be the wind beneath your wings…..(bet that song is stuck in your head right now).

If you enjoy our blogs, we’d love you to share them with a friend. And, as always, tell us your stories – you could be someone’s else’s hero (again with the song!).

Be Inspired by the Unique

Bubbles, Leopard and OOH LA LA!

Have you secretly lusted for a bubble sofa in a bright crayon color? Use it as a starting point for your living room. Here’s a rock-star sofa from Roche Bobois that will knock your socks off.

Does leopard print brings back wonderful memories of shopping in Paris with your uber-chic aunt? Lay down a faux (because we are environmentally aware) leopard carpet in your home office and stroll down memory lane.

Do something that makes you smile when you wake up in the morning and see it – even before coffee!

Not your mother’s welcome mat.

My man and I love to travel and experience different cultures. We plan on placing our terra cotta warrior from China in the foyer of our soon-to-be new home. Rather than intimidate, our warrior is kneeling and welcoming. He’s a unique presence that reflects our design style and believe me, he’s sparked some interesting conversations!

A little French fun…(got you thinking didn’t I?)

A little dynamo of a woman owns a unique French antique store in town and her style epitomizes what I’m talking about. She takes gorgeous antique pieces and then customizes them by adding a contemporary twist – like luscious white ostrich skin on a french side chair, or a burlap shade on a crystal table lamp – talk about having fun! Check out her website Sharon Lynch Collections.

Get inspired. Tour some model homes in your area for inspiration. However, your home should never look like a model home -(unless of course you are a model- which would technically make it a model’s home…..oh never mind).

Another good way to get inspired is to visit showrooms with your designer. Sometimes a great piece of furniture or an awesome light fixture can spark a discussion between the two of you that will result in something fabulous and unexpected!

Stroll the Street, Peruse Pinterest, Google Great rooms…….

You just have to pay attention to what make you feel good and as we mentioned in our previous blog, DESIGNER’S SAY “WHAT”?, communicate your inspiration to your perfect design partner and start working together to make your design dreams come true!

I’m here for you all the way friend, so let’s get started!

If you’ve recently been inspired by something unique or unexpected, please share! Your thoughts may just spark an idea in someone else!
